On 12 May 2010, MicroRate signed an agreement with LuxFLAG, enabling MicroRate to launch LUMINIS Microfinance, an investor information service. This service will increase transparency in the microfinance investment vehicle (MIV) industry, enabling investors to compare MIV performance for the first time ever.

Over the next year MicroRate will develop the LUMINIS web-platform to disseminate the MIV data collected. Information that is collected and analyzed will allow MicroRate to increase the exposure of MIVs to a wider investment audience. Access to this information will be available on a subscription basis.

This initiative supports MicroRate’s mission of contributing to the maturation of the microfinance industry and increasing the flow of funding from capital markets to microfinance by cultivating transparency throughout the microfinance industry.

About LUMINIS

LUMINIS Microfinance is the first web-based platform to provide objective information on microfinance funds, called Microfinance Investment Vehicles (MIVs), equipping investors with the data and insights needed to make well-informed investments.

LUMINIS will take on the challenge of creating transparency in the universe of MIVs. For the first time, an MIV’s critical performance data will be collected, analyzed and disseminated through a web platform. These data and the accompanying analysis will allow investors to compare MIVs, analyze performance and trends, and ultimately make informed decisions when investing in microfinance.

Transparency, critical analysis and fund comparison data are indispensable components to establish microfinance as an asset class and ensure successful long-term growth of this sustainable poverty-fighting sector.

The platform will contain MIV profiles, reports as well as industry research. MicroRate will employ its MIV evaluation methodology, to produce the content which will populate the website.
